Since its establishment in 1977, the Food and Health Innovation Center is a unique national platform offering a diverse set of production, processing, analysis and support services to students, researchers and industrial partners seeking to advance innovations. The Center covers the teaching and research needs of the department, supports the R&D needs of the Israeli food industry and fosters Israeli innovations and entrepreneurships. The current pilot plant facility is equipped with various processing platforms common to the food industry, such as thermal processing, fruit juice processing, dough processing, baking, evaporation/concentration, freezing, drying, granulation, encapsulation, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis. Overall, it is the largest and most comprehensive pilot plant in Israel supporting the training of engineers for the food, agricultural and biotechnological industries as well as the growth, prosperity and R&D efforts of these industries.
